Hi everyone! I was wondering recently if anyone knows if India will develop subscription gaming like other countries have done? In countries like the US and UK, it has become quite popular and many people pay for subscriptions to services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Now. However, in India, such models are not so developed yet. Most people still prefer to buy games directly, although subscriptions like Netflix or Spotify have become popular. Do you think there is a chance that we will see such services for gaming? And if so, what needs to change for people to start using them?

The topic is interesting and relevant. I think that according to https://gamesroid.com/subscription-based-gaming-in-india/ India may well become a market where gaming subscriptions will develop, but there are several factors that will determine this process. Firstly, it is worth understanding that subscription models for games are already starting to gain popularity in India, but there are some features that slow down wider distribution. Firstly, as you correctly noted, one-time purchases are still popular in India. This is due to the peculiarities of the financial capabilities of many people. A subscription requires regular payments, and not everyone is ready for such expenses, especially considering that in India the price of games can be significantly higher than in countries with a developed gaming market. At the same time, many Indians have limited incomes, and this difference in the price of games is an important factor. Although a subscription certainly provides more opportunities, for example, access to many games, it may not be attractive to people who are not so interested in a wide selection, but are more interested in a specific product. On the other hand, as you pointed out, subscription services like Netflix or Spotify are already quite popular. This creates a certain basis for gaming subscriptions. People are already used to paying for content by subscription, and with the development of the Internet and mobile technologies, this will only increase. In India, more and more people are connected to the Internet, and mobile gaming is especially active. Subscriptions are already becoming the norm on these platforms, and this also opens the way for the introduction of gaming subscriptions. Gaming services like Google Play Pass, which provides access to a large number of games by subscription, are gradually becoming more famous, although their popularity is still far from the level they have in countries with more developed markets.

I also think that India is slowly adapting to gaming subscription models. We can already see content subscriptions becoming more popular, especially among the youth. A lot of people use streaming subscriptions to watch movies and listen to music, so one day this trend will reach the gaming industry too. Especially since the pricing of games in India, as already mentioned, can be a problem, and game subscriptions can be a good alternative for those who are not ready to pay for each game individually.
